  31.  Just run the file "setup.exe" from the disk, or from the hard
  32.  drive directory that Advanced Speed is in. If you downloaded
  33.  Advanced Speed Typing in the form of a single zip file
  34.  (astyping.zip), then you will have to unzip the file before
  35.  running setup.exe. Utilities for unzipping zip files can be
  36.  found at many web sites.

  40.  This is Shareware. This is NOT Freeware. Advanced Speed Typing
  41.  98 comes as a fully functional 30 day trial version. After 30
  42.  days, Advanced Speed Typing will no longer function. 30 days
  43.  should be long enough to evaluate Advanced Speed Typing to
  44.  see if it fills your needs. If you decide to use AST beyond 30
  45.  days you will have to register.

  47.  Information on registering Advanced Speed is available within 
  48.  the program. Upon registering you will receive the number 
  49.  code to unlock your limited time trial version of Advanced
  50.  Speed Typing 98 by e-mail within 24 hours (usually) of my
  51.  receiving your order. You will also get the number to unlock
  52.  the latest version of Letter Chase Typing Tutor for Windows
  53.  95 (2.0). When the next 2 versions of Advanced Speed Typing
  54.  are out, you will be notified by e-mail and receive the 
  55.  number code to unlock those also. If you have no e-mail
  56.  address then I can mail the code by regular mail upon
  57.  request.

  67.  If you are new to computing, here is an explanation of 
  68.  shareware. You may find it helpful.
  69.  
  70.  Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  71.  before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  72.  using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
  73.  differ on details -- some request registration while others
  74.  require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
  75.  registration, you get anything from the simple right to
  76.  continue using the software to an updated program with printed
  77.  manual.

  79.  Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
  80.  and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
  81.  exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
  82.  programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
  83.  of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
  84.  and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  85.  distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
  86.  and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
  87.  specific group. For example, some authors require written
  88.  permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
  89.  Shareware.

  91.  Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
  92.  should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
  93.  whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
  94.  fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.

  96.  has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  97.  product, you don't pay for it.

  99.                 What is Advanced Speed Typing?
  100.                 ------------------------------
  101.  There are tons of typing tutors on the market already. Why
  102.  another? Any typing tutor can teach you how to touch type, 
  103.  what was needed was a way to push experienced typists, who
  104.  are not satisfied with their speed, into faster typing. AST 
  105.  is designed for that purpose. With Advanced Speed, the letters 
  106.  can be adjusted to appear at whatever WPM speed you want, 
  107.  regardless of the speed of your computer. This allows you to
  108.  set the speed a little faster than you can type and chase 
  109.  after the letters until you catch up. You can repeat a line 
  110.  as many times as you want, which is a great help in learning
  111.  often repeated letter combinations. The repetition of setting
  112.  the speed higher and chasing after a new personal record, is
  113.  not only fun, it will increase your hand speed significantly.
  114.  After each set of lines, a window will appear and comment on
  115.  your progress, or lack of it. (often teasingly).

  117.                Advanced Speed Typing features!

  119.  Up to four family members can use AST, and separate charts will
  120.  be kept for all four.

  122.  The hands in the Beginners Section are animated; they move from
  123.  "home row" position to the letter to type. You can repeat the
  124.  animation just by pressing the spacebar. This will help you pick
  125.  up on the direction and distance of the keys from the home row
  126.  position.

  128.  The Beginners Section also includes charts to help you visually 
  129.  detect any weaknesses in both accuracy and hand speed. All keys 
  130.  are charted, including numbers and symbols.

  132.  An Intermediate section is included. With it you can practice
  133.  words with commonly used letter combinations (ing, qu, ion, 
  134.  etc.). You can instantly pick the combination you want, by 
  135.  clicking a speed button. The file will automatically, go to 
  136.  the place you choose. Also, you can practice phrases or simple 
  137.  sentences. The intermediate section uses the animated hands. 
  138.  They can be adjusted to appear instantly, or be delayed by up 
  139.  to eight seconds.

  141.  The Advanced section allows you to practice with four lines.
  142.  Your practice will be more realistic, and a more accurate
  143.  WPM score can be calculated.

  145.  The Letter Chase section is unique to computer typing 
  146.  instructors. The letters appear at an adjustable WPM rate of 
  147.  speed. The challenge is to set it slightly faster than you can 
  148.  normally type and then try to catch up. The speed adjuster 
  149.  can adjust to any WPM rate you want, regardless of the speed 
  150.  of your computer.

  152.  Word Sweep is a section for developing Speed with the most 
  153.  commonly used words in the English language.

  155.  Advanced Speed Typing comes with a section to learn the
  156.  number keypad as well as a typing game. (the game comes with
  157.  the 32 bit version only).

  159.  Speed tests are provided so you can test your progress.

  161.  Hardware Requirements:
  162.  The Windows version requires a 486 SX20 compatible computer, or
  163.  faster. Windows 95/98 is required. You will need 8 Megabytes of 
  164.  RAM, or more. AST requires 800x600x256 screen resolution or
  165.  higher, small fonts and large.

  167.  Advanced Speed Typing is compiled with a state of the art
  168.  compiler, from Borland International, Inc. Therefore, there
  169.  is no huge runtime modual.

  196.  Single-User License:
  197.  The cost of registration for a single user is $17.40. A 
  198.  Single-User registration allows a user to make his registered
  199.  copy available to 3 additional family members (only) to use, 
  200.  on a single computer.

  202.  Multi-User License:
  203.  A site and right-to-copy may also be purchased. Educational and 
  204.  government institutions, corporations, offices or workgroups 
  205.  may purchase the right to legally copy onto more than one 
  206.  computer at a time. Copying is permitted up to the quantity 
  207.  ordered. The use of each copy will not be restricted to a 
  208.  single location. Those desiring to use Advanced Speed Typing
  209.  on a network need to purchase for the maximum  workstation/ 
  210.  keyboards to be used. When used on a network system, each user
  211.  is considered to be using a distinct copy of the licensed
  212.  program.
